Jersey Boys
City Springs Theatre Co. Byers Theatre Sandy Springs, GA
Lighting design for the 2024 production of Jersey Boys at City Springs Theatre Co., directed by Shane DeLancey.
About the Lighting Design
The design had to support both the cue density of a jukebox musical and the harder-to-name visual identity of a story that moves from a New Jersey street corner to a national-touring stage.
I leaned on visible goal-post boom structures to do the architectural work. Same language that runs through Hands on a Hardbody, The Color Purple, and Lysistrata Jones. The booms gave the rig a fixed visual identity the audience could read as part of the room rather than fixtures-to-hide. As the show scaled up from underground clubs to bigger venues, the same booms shifted register from intimate to stadium without ever leaving the audience’s read.
The musical numbers were cue-dense in the way pop-rock musicals always are: hitting on the beat, growing and receding with vocal arrangements, color and intensity moving with each lyrical turn. Quieter dialogue stretches stayed grounded. The booms held it all together.
This was during my dual run as Resident Lighting Designer and Director of Production at City Springs.

About the Show
An electrifying musical that tells the true story of four blue-collar kids from New Jersey who skyrocketed to fame, becoming one of the greatest successes in pop-music history. The show takes audiences behind the scenes of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons, revealing the highs and lows of their journey from the streets of Jersey to the pinnacle of stardom. Presented in a documentary-style format structured as four "seasons", each narrated by a different band member.
