About the Show
A 1986 musical with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by James Lapine that intertwines the plots of several Brothers Grimm fairy tales, exploring the consequences of the characters' wishes and quests. The story involves a childless baker and his wife seeking to begin a family with the help of a witch, and encounters with other storybook characters. Act I follows the wish-quest logic of fairy tales, while Act II examines the fallout and asks what happens after the "happy ending" stops functioning.

Wood's beautiful lighting helps to create the sinister undertones of the shadowy woods and minimizes the problems with the set.
