Lighting design for the 2014 production of Into The Woods at freeFall Theatre, directed by Eric Davis.
About the Lighting Design
Into The Woods at freeFall was a dream design and a practical challenge in equal parts. freeFall was known for staging big musicals in a small intimate space, with the cast moving all around the space.
Into The Woods has many locations and the design had to move between them fast. The set was mostly open floor with musicians on stage throughout, so lighting carried time of day, season, and location across every transition. The musicians needed continuous chart light no matter what was happening around them, which meant the rest of the rig had to the world around them without ever competing for their visibility.

About the Show
A 1986 musical with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by James Lapine that intertwines the plots of several Brothers Grimm fairy tales, exploring the consequences of the characters' wishes and quests. The story involves a childless baker and his wife seeking to begin a family with the help of a witch, and encounters with other storybook characters. Act I follows the wish-quest logic of fairy tales, while Act II examines the fallout and asks what happens after the "happy ending" stops functioning.
