42nd Street
City Springs Theatre Company Byers Theatre Sandy Springs, GA
Lighting design for the 2018 production of 42nd Street at City Springs Theatre Company, directed by Brandt Blocker.
About the Lighting Design
42nd Street was City Springs Theatre Company’s first production. The building was still being finished when we loaded in. We unboxed equipment at tech tables that hadn’t themselves been built. Cables, fixtures, consoles; none of it had run a show yet.
The schedule was unforgiving; we didn’t write a single cue until about three days before opening. There was no previz safety net to fall back on. We came into the room with a plan built around the script, and from there it was real-time problem-solving for every moment as the show came together.

About the Show
Peggy Sawyer, a talented young performer with stars in her eyes, gets her big break on Broadway. Peggy arrives in New York City from Allentown, Pennsylvania, armed with her tap shoes and big dreams. Her talent catches the eye of legendary Broadway director Julian Marsh, who gives her a spot in the chorus of Pretty Lady, his newest show. When Dorothy Brock, the classic Broadway diva, is injured during the show's previews, Pretty Lady looks like it will have to close unless a new girl talented enough to lead the show can be found. Peggy gets her chance to become the star she always dreamed of being.
