Of Mice & Men
Stageworks Theatre Stageworks Studio Theatre Tampa, FL
Lighting design for the 2013 production of Of Mice & Men at Stageworks Theatre, directed by Richard Coppinger.
About the Lighting Design
Of Mice & Men at Stageworks was one of my first professional productions in Tampa, and the design won a Best Lighting Design award the same year.
The show ran on disciplined realism. Cyc work carried time of day: clouds in a daytime sky, sunrises washing the back wall, sunsets bleeding through the cyc into the interior. The unit set could open and close to reveal interior and exterior barn scenes, and lighting did most of the heavy lifting for location, shifting both the cyc and the interior practicals as the set opened.

About the Show
This powerful tragedy, Steinbeck's stage adaptation of his classic novel, explores the friendship between two migrant workers, affable George and mentally challenged Lennie, and their dream of owning a farm. George and Lennie have been traveling together from ranch to ranch for years, working hard to make ends meet and save enough for a place of their own. Though they are different, they care deeply about each other.
