About the Show
Harold Pinter's 1978 play follows a seven-year affair involving a married couple, Emma and Robert, and Robert's close friend Jerry, who is also married. The play's nine-scene structure tells the story in reverse chronology, beginning in 1977 when the affair between Emma and Jerry has been over for some time, then working backward through the 1970s to 1968 on the day Jerry first declares his love for Emma. Characteristic of Pinter's work, the play features economical dialogue, hidden emotions, and the slow excavation of deception and self-deception.
